You’ve probably seen plenty of guys growing out their facial hair for “Movember” – but what is behind the trendy charity movement? November is Men’s Health Awareness month, a time to raise awareness of a wide range of men’s health issues. Historically, men, the supposed “tougher” of the two genders, have ignored their mental and physical well-being for too long. So this month, we’re focused on all the ways that men can stay mentally healthy through self-care. As men’s salons, spas and barbershops are seeing their biggest boom yet, our students are studying up on all the latest trends in men’s care.

Men’s Massage – Because They Have Bodies Too!

Massages for men are nothing new, but the amount and variety of treatment options out there are. With traditional massage therapy, there’s a wide array of therapeutic services that restore men’s minds and bodies, which include:

  • Hot stone massage
  • Spa treatments
  • Energy-based bodywork
  • Shiatsu and Ayurveda
  • Clinical massage
  • Reflexology
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Chair massage
  • Body wraps
  • CBD oil service application
  • Aromatherapy

We teach these techniques at »ĆąĎÉçÇř because we know how in-demand massage therapists can be, and how niching yourself in the massage industry can bring many opportunities. Whether a sports injury, chronic ailment, or just some much-needed destressing, massages can bring a whole world of wellness to men this month.

Men Face Their Skincare Fears

It’s time for men to embrace the art of skincare. From acne to scarring, razor burn to dry skin, men’s faces need love too, and the industry is taking notice. Before, products and services for men were pretty straightforward and simple, but with more men prioritizing healthy, younger-looking skin, the options have opened up greatly. There are plenty of treatments available for a number of conditions that the skin care and aesthetician students in our academy are currently learning, such as:

  • Skin analysis
  • Customized facials
  • Facial massage with alternative massage techniques
  • Hair removal
  • Exfoliation
  • Facial machines
  • Micro-needling
  • Oxygen Infusion Facials
  • Dermaplaning
  • Electrolysis
  • The science of product ingredients
  • Advanced Therapeutic applications and more

All of these treatments are beneficial to issues that men experience every day as they age, and too often ignore. At both campuses, we ensure that our students get the expert training they need to be masters at their craft.

A Cut Above

And of course, we can’t mention Movember and men’s wellness without talking about a trip to the barber. A barber is a professional in the hair industry that specializes in cutting and styling men’s hair, as well as other grooming related to male facial hair. The barbering profession dates back to the early days in the U.S., and many shops are still steeped in the tradition of equipment, techniques, and atmosphere of the olden days. Back then, barbers required skill, training, a steady hand, and a keen eye. Today’s expert barbers possess all those skills and are also state-licensed. They do more than cut hair – they trim, taper, and shape using various tools. Along with other facial grooming and cutting services, we teach our budding barbers to be experts at:

  • Shampooing
  • Hairstyling
  • Hair coloring
  • Scalp, neck, or facial massages
  • Hot towel shave

How a man chooses to wear his hair reveals who he is as a person. A trip to the barber is an excellent way to nail down the style that best fits you. Taking care of your hair shows the world that you value yourself – if you neglect it, it will show. Our accredited barber program provides expertise in the theory of barbering, as well as hands-on training for students so that their clients always leave extremely satisfied with their appearance.

As more men’s spas and salons hit the scene to meet the demand, we’re seeing more opportunities than ever to make a splash in men’s wellness.

If you’re interested in helping men to look and feel their best – not just this month, but as a potential new career, we invite you to our campus to learn more and make an impact. »ĆąĎÉçÇř is proud to hold the standard of excellence for men’s professionals and be the school of choice for training future salon and spa masters.

Do you have to be licensed to own a Barbershop in Florida?

There are some careers that just seem ideal for those “people-person” types. You know – the folks who thrive on interacting with people from all walks of life. And within that group, there are some with a real talent for conversation and others who prefer to listen quietly, rather than chat up the masses. Whichever type you are, the one career that’s a great fit for “people-people” is the professional barber. After all, in an average week, a barber often sees dozens of different people from very diverse backgrounds. That can make for a very interesting work week, where boredom isn’t likely to be an issue. So, how do you become a barber and open a barbershop in Florida? We’ve rounded up the information you need to join the talented professionals out there shaping their communities and the heads in them… one haircut at a time.

Florida Barber Licensing Requirements

To become a barber in Florida, you must first complete a state-approved Barbering Program. The Florida Barber’s Board requires a minimum of 1,200 hours of barber training for a program to qualify. After graduating from an approved program, the next step is to apply for a Florida Barber License from the Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR). The application can be submitted online through their website – . The next step is to schedule the state barber examination through Pearson VUE, the testing center that administers the exam. Upon passing the exam, your new barber license will be mailed to you.

Opening a Barbershop in Florida

If you’re looking to take your barbering career to a whole new level by opening your own shop, you must first have a barber’s license. There are a number of safety and sanitary requirements for opening your own barbershop and obtaining a license. Your shop will need to be inspected by the state of Florida. For example, your barbershop must have at least one shampoo bowl with hot and cold water and must contain a minimum of 100 square feet, excluding the bathroom. You can find a detailed breakdown of all the requirements by clicking this

The desire to look good is as old as the barbering profession itself. That makes becoming a barber a solid career choice that could put you on the path to success by doing what you love for a living! Ice-Cube is the same affable, earthy character in “The Next Cut”, the sequel to the funny but touching “Barber Shop”, that comes out in theaters soon. The movie for all its parody and tongue in cheek dialogue really leaves you with this: Neighborhoods still need the barbershop. From the small towns, to the suburbs, to the inner cities; the barbershop is still a place people come to because it’s familiar. It welcomes you. When you’re in that chair, you finally have someone’s full attention. For a while, anyway.  Today’s economy may have done away with a lot of “luxuries” but somehow the barbershop still remains… a necessity. A fixture in a world where too many things get lost.

Good-natured ribbing and a ringside seat for the full on show of mutually enjoyed harassment between the barbershop staff, is one reason you keep coming back. To see what they will say next. You will likely see kids grow up right in front of you, whether you are in the chair or behind it. And depending on where you are geographically, there may be a diner, a taco bus, a chicken shack, or a coffee shop near your barber shop. But it will likely be the second best thing you like about getting a trim. It’s the ritual. Humans thrive on it. We are creatures of habit and habits are a result of enjoying the things we do on a regular basis.

So what does it take to be a barber? Besides a sense of humor and the willingness to occasionally be the butt of the joke, you must first understand that this really is a profession that requires particular skills and knowledge. Good barbers are talented artists and craftsman, typically with a very loyal following. The right training can mean the difference between an entire book of clients versus – you get the walk-ins. It’s essential to get that training from a reputable school with a proven track record. After all, you will need to know a fade from a crew cut and a high and tight from a mullet? (Never mind, that trend is NOT coming back…we hope)

The truth is becoming a barber requires skill, patience, and the ability to communicate. »ĆąĎÉçÇř is training the next generation of talented barbers. There is no substitute for the hands-on learning and dynamic curriculum our students enjoy. Our instructors are ready to teach you all the trends, old and new. Let us help prepare you for your future as a skilled professional barber with a book of clients and friends that will last a lifetime.
