Key Responsibilities

  4. Conduct consultations and skin analyses: As a medical esthetician, you will be responsible for conducting consultations, analyzing clients’ skin concerns, and creating personalized treatment plans and product recommendations.
  5. Maintain accurate documentation: Completing required intake information, maintaining client files, and documenting treatments and progress are essential aspects of your role.

Skills Required

To excel as a medical esthetician, you will need to develop the following skills:

  1. Comprehensive knowledge of skincare products, ingredients, and their benefits.
  2. Proficiency in performing various aesthetic treatments, such as microneedling, laser hair removal, photofacials, chemical peels, and more.
  3. Familiarity with injectables and their applications.

  6. Ability to stay updated on current trends, issues, and best practices in cosmetic treatments and laser therapies.

By understanding the key responsibilities and developing the necessary skills, you will be well-equipped to navigate the dynamic field of medical esthetics and provide exceptional care to your patients.

Educational Requirements

To become a licensed medical esthetician, you need to complete an accredited education program and fulfill specific training requirements. Here are the key educational requirements:

Necessary Degrees and Certifications

  • Esthetician License: Most states require you to obtain an esthetician license to practice as a medical esthetician. The licensing process typically involves completing an approved training program and passing written and practical exams.
  • Cosmetology or Esthetician Program: You can enroll in a cosmetology or esthetician program at a vocational school, community college, or specialized esthetics institution. These programs provide a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training in areas such as skincare treatments, hair removal, makeup application, and safety protocols.
  • Certificate or Diploma: Many schools offer certificate or diploma programs in esthetics, which can be completed in 9 to 12 months. These programs cover topics like anatomy, physiology, skin analysis, and advanced treatments like chemical peels and microdermabrasion.
  • Associate’s Degree: Some community colleges offer associate’s degree programs in esthetics, which typically take two years to complete. These programs provide more in-depth training and may include courses in business management and marketing.

When selecting a school or program, consider factors such as accreditation, curriculum, hands-on training opportunities, and job placement assistance. It’s also essential to ensure that the program meets the licensing requirements in your state.

Gaining Practical Experience

Practical experience is an essential component of your journey to becoming a medical esthetician. It allows you to apply the theoretical knowledge gained during your education and develop the necessary skills to excel in this field. There are two primary avenues for gaining practical experience: internships and apprenticeships, and clinical training.

Internships and Apprenticeships

Internships and apprenticeships provide invaluable hands-on training under the guidance of experienced professionals. These opportunities allow you to:

  1. Observe and learn from seasoned medical estheticians in real-world settings.
  2. Gain exposure to various skin conditions, treatments, and client interactions.
  3. Develop your skills in performing procedures such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and laser treatments.
  4. Build your professional network and establish connections within the industry.

Many esthetician programs include internship or apprenticeship components, allowing you to accumulate the required hours of practical experience. If your program does not offer this opportunity, you can actively seek internships or apprenticeships at medical spas, dermatology clinics, or plastic surgery centers.

Clinical Training

Clinical training is another crucial aspect of gaining practical experience. During this phase, you will have the opportunity to work directly with clients under the supervision of licensed professionals. Clinical training typically involves:

  1. Conducting client consultations and skin analyses.
  2. Performing various aesthetic treatments, such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and laser hair removal.
  3. Assisting medical professionals during procedures like Botox injections or dermal fillers.
  4. Learning about pre- and post-treatment care, as well as managing potential side effects.
  5. Practicing effective communication and client education techniques.

Many medical esthetician programs incorporate clinical training components, allowing you to work in a controlled environment and receive feedback from instructors. This hands-on experience is invaluable in preparing you for real-world scenarios and building your confidence in providing safe and effective treatments.

It is important to note that the specific requirements for internships, apprenticeships, and clinical training may vary depending on your state’s regulations and the program you choose. Be sure to research and comply with all necessary guidelines to ensure you meet the practical experience requirements for licensure or certification.

Certification and Licensure

After completing your education and gaining practical experience, the next crucial step is obtaining the necessary certification and licensure to practice as a medical esthetician. This process ensures you meet the required standards and regulations in your state.

Examination Process

Most states require you to pass both a written theory examination and a practical examination to become licensed. The examinations assess your knowledge and skills in various areas, including:

  1. Skin anatomy and physiology
  2. Skin analysis and consultation
  3. Facial treatments and massage techniques
  4. Hair removal methods
  5. Makeup application
  6. Safety and sanitation protocols

The examinations may be administered by the state board or a third-party testing agency. It’s essential to thoroughly prepare for these exams by reviewing your course materials and practicing your practical skills.

State-Specific Requirements

Licensure requirements for medical estheticians vary from state to state. Some key factors to consider include:

  1. Education and Training Hours: Most states require you to complete a specific number of training hours, typically ranging from 300 to 1,000 hours, from an accredited esthetician program.
  2. Age and Education Level: Many states have minimum age and education level requirements, such as being at least 16 or 17 years old and having completed a certain grade level or obtaining a high school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Fees: You will need to pay application fees, examination fees, and licensing fees, which can vary significantly between states.
  4. Reciprocity and Endorsement: Some states offer reciprocity or endorsement for licensed estheticians from other states, allowing you to transfer your license without retaking the examinations. However, the requirements for reciprocity or endorsement can differ.
  5. Continuing Education: Several states require licensed estheticians to complete a certain number of continuing education hours every renewal period to maintain their license.

It’s crucial to research the specific requirements in the state where you plan to practice. Contact the relevant state board or licensing authority to obtain the most up-to-date information and ensure you meet all the necessary criteria.

By successfully completing the examination process and fulfilling your state’s licensure requirements, you’ll be legally authorized to practice as a medical esthetician and provide professional skincare services to your clients.

Conclusion

The pathway to becoming a medical esthetician is rigorous, demanding comprehensive education, hands-on training, and success in certification and licensure. We have explored the significant steps: selecting the right education at a medical esthetician school, undergoing programs and courses designed to equip students with necessary skills, and the indispensable need for internships or apprenticeships to gain practical experience. Moreover, the journey culminates in a critical phase of obtaining certification and licensure, ensuring adherence to state regulations and standards of practice.

As aspiring medical estheticians navigate through these stages, they contribute to an esteemed field dedicated to improving patient well-being and enhancing the beauty industry with specialized knowledge. Hey there self-confessed skincare fanatics – skin care isn’t just about treating existing damage but also about proactively avoiding any damage in the future. We believe everyone can achieve beautiful, healthy skin, regardless of their budget. So if this sounds like something you鈥檙e interested in learning more about, come with us on our journey through proactive skin care techniques. We will show how studying esthetics at 黄瓜社区 empowers potential future professionals to help people fight back against the signs of aging, sun and environmental damage, allowing them to harness their inner glow.

The importance of skincare

When it comes to our skin, taking a proactive approach is the key to not only reversing the signs of aging and sun damage but also preventing further harm. Our skin is our largest organ and requires preventive, proactive and reactive care in order to stay healthy, glowing and youthful. We鈥檝e read for years how exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays can cause skin damage, such as sunburn, premature aging, and even skin cancer. Treating damaged skin for dryness, discoloration, hyperpigmentation and wrinkles can help improve the overall appearance and health of our skin.

One of the key areas of focus for students at 黄瓜社区 is learning how to protect their clients’ skin from the harmful effects of the sun and reverse sun damage. Students are taught the latest and time-tested techniques, including skin analysis, custom facials, exfoliation, micro-needling, oxygen infusion facials, and dermaplaning.

Skin Analysis

Skin analysis is a critical first step in any skincare treatment. Students at 黄瓜社区 learn to analyze their clients’ skin type, sensitivity, and overall health. By analyzing the skin, students can determine the appropriate products and techniques that will be used to protect and rejuvenate and restore the skin. This includes selecting the right sunscreen for the client’s skin type and recommending products that help reverse sun damage, such as serums that contain vitamin C or hyaluronic acid.

Custom Facials

Custom facials are tailored to the individual needs of each client, based on their skin type and any specific concerns they may have. For example, a client with dry skin may require a moisturizing facial, while a client with oily skin may benefit from a deep-cleansing facial. Custom facials can also include the use of masks, peels, and other treatments that help eliminate toxins and promote collagen production and reverse sun damage.

Exfoliation

Exfoliation is an important technique for removing dead skin cells and promoting cell turnover. Students in 黄瓜社区’s Master Aesthetician program are taught how to perform the different types of exfoliation, including chemical peels and microdermabrasion. Chemical peels use alpha or beta hydroxy acids to dissolve dead skin cells and fade age spots, as well as unclog and minimize pores.

Microdermabrasion uses a small wand with micro beadlets to gently remove the outer layer of skin as it stimulates production of new skin cells, boosting collagen and protein production for a smoother skin appearance. Both of these techniques can help to reduce the appearance of sun damage, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Microneedling

Microneedling is another technique that students at 黄瓜社区 learn. This technique involves using a small device with tiny needles to create microchannels in the skin. The microchannels stimulate the skin’s natural healing process, which can help to reduce the appearance of sun damage and other skin concerns, such as acne scars and hyperpigmentation.

Oxygen Infusion Facials

Oxygen infusion facials are a relatively new technique that has gained popularity in the beauty industry. This technique involves infusing oxygen and other nutrients into the skin, which can help to improve circulation, promote cell turnover, and reduce the appearance of sun damage. Students at 黄瓜社区 learn how to perform oxygen infusion facials, as well as how to select the appropriate skincare products for their clients.

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning involves using a small blade to remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells and fine facial hair. This technique can help to improve the texture and tone of the skin, as well as reduce the appearance of sun damage and fine lines.

Here at 黄瓜社区, we provide you with the hands-on training, practical spa experience, and specialized techniques it takes to pursue a successful career. By learning how to perform skin analysis, custom facials, exfoliation, micro-needling, oxygen infusion facials, and dermaplaning, students can provide their clients with the best possible skin care treatments. As the beauty industry continues to evolve, the trend towards holistic beauty treatments is gaining popularity. According to Statista, 鈥淭he global market value for natural cosmetics and personal care expected a positive increase from almost 35 billion dollars in 2021 to roughly 59 billion dollars expected for the year 2031. This approach recognizes that beauty is not just skin deep, but rather a reflection of our overall health and lifestyle choices.

Facial Massage with Alternative Massage Techniques

Facial massage and other alternative massage techniques can improve skin tone, reduce wrinkles, and promote relaxation. The techniques involved in facial massage focus on stimulating blood flow and lymphatic drainage, helping to detoxify the skin and reduce puffiness. In our exfoliation courses, you will learn how to use natural ingredients such as sugar, salt, and coffee grounds to exfoliate the skin gently. These ingredients help to remove dead skin cells and promote skin regeneration, leaving the skin looking smooth and radiant.

Makeup Artistry

Makeup artistry is a critical component of holistic beauty treatments. As a beauty professional, you will learn how to choose makeup products that are natural and gentle on the skin. You will also learn how to apply makeup in a way that enhances your client’s natural beauty, rather than masking it.

Facial Machines:

Facial machines are a valuable tool in holistic beauty treatments. At 黄瓜社区, you will learn how to use facial machines such as microdermabrasion and LED light therapy, which can help to improve skin texture and reduce signs of aging. By incorporating facial machines into your practice, you can provide your clients with a more comprehensive range of beauty treatments.

Diet and nutrition play a crucial role in holistic beauty treatments, so it鈥檚 important to learn how to provide your clients with dietary advice that can help to improve their skin health. You will also discover how to recommend supplements and other natural remedies that can promote overall well-being.

Hemp, CBD Oils, and Organic Healing Treatment

From skincare to makeup, hair to massage; we teach how to incorporate these products into your practice and provide your clients with a more holistic range of beauty treatments.

Herbal Therapies

Balayage, extreme color, extreme style鈥 as hair color and complex treatments have continued to soar in popularity; more and more men and women are exploring new color, style and hair design. At times, especially when practiced at home or with improperly trained stylists, extreme damage can occur including breakage, discoloration, and even loss of hair.

No matter the severity of the damage, these circumstances require the expertise of professional stylists to properly repair broken, damaged and discolored tresses. Every day, 黄瓜社区 students undergo extensive training and real-world situations to learn and practice for the most extreme circumstances in our on-campus salons. To learn how our students are making the cut when it comes to repairing and restoring hair, first let鈥檚 take a look at the 鈥渞oot鈥 of the cause.

What causes damaged hair?

Damaged hair can be caused by a variety of factors, such as over-exposure to the sun, heated styling tools, overuse or improper use of chemical treatments like dyes, bleaches, and relaxers, cheap over the counter hair products and even simply a lack of proper care such as excessive tugging, pulling and styling of hair. Heat styling tools such as curling irons, straightening irons, and blow dryers are particularly damaging to the hair shaft if used too often, on wet hair or at high temperatures. Other styling products like hair sprays and gels may contain harsh chemicals that can dry out your hair and weaken it over time.

Environmental factors like sun exposure, chlorine in swimming pools and air pollution can also alter the health of your locks. Professional and student stylists will evaluate these possibilities plus habits of frequent shampooing or bleaching that can strip away natural oils from your scalp and protect the strands from breakage. Ultimately, each factor or a combination can lead to split ends, breakage, discoloration and dullness. This damage affects not only the texture of the hair but also its strength, vibrancy and shine.

黄瓜社区 students to the rescue!

At 黄瓜社区, our students are educated on all of the latest techniques to repair damaged hair. Our on-campus salons provide students with real-world experience and beauty challenges to prepare them for every situation and circumstance that may grace their chair. These techniques include using heat styling tools, color correction, coloring or perming damaged hair, and using conditioners, masks and other repair treatments.

Each technique has its own set of benefits and drawbacks. For example, heat styling tools can help to repair damaged hair by sealing in moisture and protecting the hair from further damage. However, heat styling tools can also cause damage to the hair if they are not used properly.

Coloring damaged hair can also help to repair it by adding moisture and shine. However, it is important to be careful when coloring damaged hair because it can also cause more damage if it is not done correctly. This is why it is excruciatingly important to us to not only teach our students the most updated and correct methods but also give them real salon experience so that they are ready for any challenge.

Repairing Heat Damage

Heat damage is one of the most common types of damage that we see in the salon. If you suspect that a client’s hair has heat damage, take a look at the following signs:

  • Dryness and dullness
  • Brittle texture
  • Split ends
  • Unruly frizz
  • Incorrect or faded hair color
  • Knots and tangles
  • Broken hair strands

If a client’s hair is showing any of these signs, they are likely in need of treatment. Cosmetologists today are well trained and equipped with some of the most advanced products and training to correct and reverse the damage which varies in every situation based on the cause. Correction treatments range from trimming damaged hair, bonding treatments, salon-grade moisturizing treatments and updated hairstyles that require less styling and products.

Keratin treatments are one of the most popular options for repairing damaged hair. Keratin is a protein that naturally occurs in your hair, and it helps to give your hair its strength and structure. When your hair is damaged, the keratin proteins can become depleted, leading to weak and brittle hair. Keratin treatments replenish these proteins, giving your hair new life. Another option is a bond-building treatment that helps to repair and strengthen the hair, or fortifying products specifically designed for weak and damaged hair.

Repairing Color Damage

Color damage is another common type of damage that we see in the salon. It can be caused by anything from over-processing to using the wrong type of color products. Color damage may look like:

  • Fading color
  • Brassy tones
  • Dryness
  • Breakage
  • Split ends

Salon-grade products for correction help to repair and protect color-treated hair from fading and restore its healthy appearance.

Repairing Chemical Damage

Chemical damage can be caused by anything from perms and straightening treatments to bleaching and highlights. If your hair is severely damaged, you may need a protein reconstruction treatment. Protein reconstructions work by rebuilding the inner structure of your hair shafts using proteins and amino acids.

When it comes to damaged hair, today鈥檚 solutions can correct hair often in a single visit as evidenced in 黄瓜社区鈥檚 salons daily. Our students are expertly prepared to take on the most challenging issues in every type of hair. If you鈥檙e looking to explore your creativity and pursue your passion for the beauty industry, 黄瓜社区鈥檚 accredited Master Hair Design program will provide you with the skills and hands-on training you need to pursue a successful future as a cosmetologist.  Visit our website to take our 3-minute Career-Readiness test and find out if a career as a Hair Design professional is right for you.

February is Black History Month. Please join us as we celebrate and look back at how African Americans have shaped our beloved industry. From ancient times to present, the black community has always been a trendsetter in the beauty arena, and we are thrilled to honor them while providing valuable instruction for the leaders of tomorrow.

African Americans in beauty history

Black women and men have a long history in the beauty industry, and from ancient times to modern day, they paved the road for many of our favorite trends. For example, in Ancient Egypt, during the time of Cleopatra, Achiampong and other black women were known for their expertise in hair styling and makeup application, resulting in a long line of inspiring styles. During the 20th century, many African American beauticians opened their own salons and businesses, providing services to African American communities that had been excluded from mainstream beauty salons. These communities weren鈥檛 just doing hair – they were completely breaking barriers in the industry. Madam C.J. Walker is often cited as one of the most influential figures in this regard; she was America鈥檚 first self-made female millionaire thanks to her incredible success in creating a line of products specifically designed for black women鈥檚 hair care needs at the time. Many others followed in her footsteps, including Annie Turnbo Malone, who also founded a hair care line that ultimately became the world鈥檚 largest black-owned business. Throughout history, black people have been pushing boundaries and broadening horizons, leading to greater opportunities for our students today.

How black people are shaping the beauty industry today

In modern times, many African American visionaries have made their mark in the beauty industry as well. For example, makeup artist Sir John has worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood and is renowned for his ability to create beautiful looks on all types of women regardless of skin tone or ethnicity. He is definitely the definition of 鈥渇ierce!鈥 He’s worked with superstars such as Naomi Campbell and Rihanna, and his work has been featured in magazines like Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and ELLE. Sir John has also appeared on TV shows such as America鈥檚 Next Top Model and Project Runway. His signature look includes bold colors, dramatic contours, and creating unique looks for each individual client.

Meanwhile, hairstylist Vernon Francois has become a celebrity favorite thanks to his expertise in styling natural hair textures 鈥 something unheard of even just a few years ago (we know, we can barely believe it ourselves)! His list of clients includes Lupita Nyong’o, Serena Williams, Solange Knowles, Amandla Stenberg, Zendaya Coleman and many other high-profile celebrities and public figures. Francois鈥檚 work has been featured in multiple magazines such as British Vogue, Allure Magazine, Vanity Fair magazine and Refinery 29. Additionally, he has collaborated with brands such as L鈥橭real Paris and Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula to create exclusive collections that cater to people with textured hair textures.

Black women in the beauty industry

Another influential figure in the beauty industry is Lisa Price, founder of Carol’s Daughter. Price had a passion for natural ingredients and used them to make skincare products that were specifically designed for people with dark skin tones. Her work has been incredibly successful鈥攁nd she has inspired many others to create their own businesses as well. We love Lisa鈥檚 story because it shows how far someone can take their growth and success in this industry. It鈥檚 beyond inspiring!

And speaking of beyond inspiring, we definitely can鈥檛 forget about Pat McGrath, another hero to the beauty biz. She’s considered one of the most influential people in beauty today and is known for her creative use of pigments and products to create iconic looks. Her work has been seen on the runways of fashion houses such as Dior, Prada, and Versace. She’s also created makeup collections for major beauty brands like CoverGirl, Procter & Gamble, and Clinique.

Finally, there’s the work of Chandra Coleman, who founded Omolewa Natural in 2015 to provide natural hair care products for African American women – a completely overlooked market in the industry for far too long. Her brand has grown exponentially over the past few years and continues to be a leader in both beauty and
diversity. Thanks to her efforts, more people have access to products that are specifically designed with their needs in mind.

The beauty industry is forever indebted to these incredible individuals, who have dedicated their
lives to making cosmetics more accessible and inclusive for all. They have set a powerful example that can serve as an inspiration for generations of entrepreneurs to come. By paving the way for others, they鈥檝e helped create a more equitable environment where everyone can excel鈥攔egardless of race or background. And that鈥檚 an industry that we certainly want to be a part of.

Now it鈥檚 time to make your mark on the beauty industry, contact us for a tour of our Boca Raton or Parkland campuses, and start your journey today. Call 561-487-1191 or take a 3 minute career-readiness quiz at .

The beauty industry has seen explosive growth in recent years, and the field of luscious lashes is no exception. According to Verified Market Research,

鈥淭he Lash Extension Market size was valued at USD 1.36 Billion in 2020 and is projected to reach USD 2.31 Billion by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 6.95% from 2021 to 2028.鈥

Lash care and extensions are becoming increasingly popular, both as a way to enhance natural beauty and to offer a more long-term alternative to traditional mascara. As a result, the demand for trained professionals has also grown rapidly. From natural methods like coconut oil, castor oil, and olive oil, to extensions and faux eyelash sets, there are many ways to take your look clients鈥 up a notch and dive right into this exciting industry.

A Short History on Long Lashes

When it comes to lash trends over the years, there have been a lot of changes. In the early days, mascara was used to add length and definition to lashes, but the ’50s saw a trend toward using false lashes for added drama. This carried on in the ’60s, with heavy, voluminous false lashes becoming extremely popular. In the ’70s, more natural-looking options were favored over dramatic styles, and this trend continued into the ’80s and ’90s, before expanding to include more colorful varieties. The 2000s saw the rise of lengthening mascaras and curling wands, allowing for more creative options and a stronger focus on individualized styles.

More recently, lash lifts and extensions have become increasingly popular, allowing for longer and fuller-looking lashes without the need for falsies. Overall, lash trends have evolved significantly over the decades, and more and more options are becoming available to suit different styles.

The Rise of Extensions

Eyelash extensions are a popular beauty procedure that involves the application of individual synthetic, mink or silk eyelashes to natural lashes. Unlike store-bought lashes, the professional procedure works by using a special adhesive to attach individual extensions to the natural lashes, creating a fuller, longer look. The results are natural looking and can last up to two months with proper maintenance.

The process can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the desired look and fullness of the lashes. The length and thickness of the extensions can also be customized to suit individual preferences.

Eyelash extensions can dramatically enhance your appearance and help to create a dramatic and glamorous look. They can also make your eyes appear larger and more striking, making them ideal for special occasions such as weddings or parties. Due to their semi-permanent nature, lash extensions are a great way to add drama and enhance your look with minimal effort.

Eyelash extension services offer excellent job opportunities for those looking to enter or grow within the beauty industry. Graduates of our Makeup and Skin Care program have been highly successful working in specialty lash boutiques, full-service salons, makeup studios, spas and as mobile beauty service providers. With the growing demand for professional treatments, as well as specialized courses and certifications available, there has never been a better time to get involved in this exciting field.  With the right education, training, and certification, individuals can become certified lash technicians and provide clients with the highest quality services possible.

In order to become certified as an eyelash extension professional, individuals need to undergo specialized training that covers everything from proper application techniques to health and safety protocols. At 黄瓜社区, we provide hands-on training in our salon, so that our students are as close to a real-life beauty setting as possible.

Throughout the year, 黄瓜社区 hosts on-campus recruiting events to connect employers with new graduates. Whether you鈥檙e looking for a new career path or want to expand your certification to provide eyelash extension services – become a lash master by speaking to an advisor today! 561-487-1191

Do you enjoy seeing your newsfeed full of the trendiest, most gorgeous nail art? You鈥檙e not alone – in recent years, the popularity of over-the-top, extra extra nails has seen a meteoric rise. But nail art is nothing new – nail adornment can be traced all the way back to the 18th century, where ancient Egyptian and Asian cultures used rose-colored nails dyed with henna or crushed flowers as a status symbol. Long nails adorned with precious metals and stones also signaled high status – not that much different from the current trends of today.

With rising trends come increasing opportunities for nail artists, and 黄瓜社区 celebrates individuals who have shown us how we can take our art to new levels. We鈥檝e hand-picked some of our favorite successful nail artists, stylists, and innovators that are making the industry one of the most fun, dynamic spaces to be in.

As we say goodbye to one beautiful year, we welcome the next one with open arms, as well as hands that are ready to work their magic and make others feel fantastic about themselves. 2022 brought many beauty trends that enhanced our courses and student knowledge at 黄瓜社区, and 2023 promises to usher in a whole new wave of trends to benefit our students and their future clients. Let鈥檚 take a closer look at how health and beauty trends have amplified what we are learning and implementing in the classroom.

2022 in Review

Hair that鈥檚 out there

Hair that reached new heights saw an uptick in popularity this year, as high puff hairstyle searches have grown 165% from October 2019 per Pinterest. A renewed interest in natural hair texture is behind the growing interest, with short natural hairstyles, natural hair bun styles, and two puffs natural hair hairstyles leading the trending pack. Studies also show that fashionistas were looking to rebel this year, with “hard-to-miss hair” styles like octopus hair, mullets and bob cut wigs seeing the light of day again. Shaved head dye designs and short hair mohawks were hot in action and definitely made a big statement this year. Our Master Hair Design program allows our students to get practice in a real salon, so they can get the experience and sense of what鈥檚 trending at that exact moment.

Totally nailing it

It seems that nail art has taken to a new high each year, and 2022 was no exception. Individual expression of beauty is not a new trend, but it is reaching new heights in the nail area. Landscape-style designs and galaxy nail art adorned many a digit this year, with ocean, desert, and Aurora-themed nails also rising in popularity. Social media has helped fuel the phenomenon, with nail art images and videos that seemingly get more and more unique. It has never been a more exciting or profitable time to be a nail artist, and 黄瓜社区鈥檚 Nail Technician program takes you through all the essentials you need to nail for the profession.

Making room for the men

Each year, the male beauty industry intensifies, and in 2022 we saw a massive expansion in the range of products and services for men. With everything from manicures to home grooming, this industry is expected to reach $277 billion by 2030. Icons like Harry Styles helped to make male nail polish and cosmetics a norm for men, and with the number of male beauty influencers and brand ambassadors on the rise, not only are gender norms being challenged but a whole new market opportunity is being created for our students to excel at. We have definitely seen a rise in enrollment for our Barbering program, aimed specifically at the male beauty experience.

Skincare is queen

Rather than just hide blemishes and imperfections, this year we were determined to fix them at their root cause. With many working from home and finding less of a need for makeup, our focus was pivoted to excellent skin care. YouTube saw a rise in skincare tutorials over cosmetic videos, and we are even seeing an emergence of hybrid products that combine makeup properties with skincare ingredients.

What鈥檚 to Come in 2023

Beauty & tech, the new 鈥渋t鈥 couple

One thing that never goes out of style for consumers and clients is value. As they look to make the most out of their dollar, we are seeing an increase in money being put toward beauty technology. Technical advancements such as 3D printing, gene editing, and wearable devices are taking center stage as their efficiency and potency help to develop new products and processes.

Putting the care in self-care

2020 rang in a rough couple of years for most of us, so it鈥檚 no wonder that self-care routines are at an all-time high. While the treatments themselves are important, it鈥檚 also the value of connecting and community that will make self-care at the forefront of beauty regimens. Helping others is at the forefront of wellness this coming year, with new ways to help all of us feel and live better. This means more holistic practices as well as treatments for habits that support beauty such as sleep and circulation.

Getting digitally gorgeous

As we step into the future, consumers are looking for the next generation of experience, which entails a merger of online and offline formats – everything from digital avatars to the incorporation of the metaverse to virtual reality, which will go from being a very unique experience to just the regular norm. 鈥淧hygital鈥 (physical + digital) experiences will lead us to a new way of connecting with clients.

It鈥檚 truly a blossoming time to be a part of the beauty industry, as new trends bring endless possibilities. Does that sound like a dream come true to you? Come visit us to see all that is waiting for you in the world of beauty.

It鈥檚 October, a bewitchingly fabulous month for cosmetics, and specifically, theatrical and SFX makeup. • Fake blood and wounds
  • False teeth
  • Facial hair and bald caps
  • Latex and silicon
  • Age makeup
  • Transformative makeup
