Embarking on a career as a master esthetician opens a door to advanced opportunities in the beauty and skincare industry, an area that consistently evolves with technological advancements and changing consumer needs. As the demand for specialized skincare experts increases, acquiring a master esthetician license becomes not just a valuable asset but a crucial step toward career advancement. This license signifies a higher level of expertise and knowledge in the field, distinguishing you from basic estheticians and equipping you with the capabilities to offer a wider range of advanced skincare treatments and consultations. With the aesthetics industry’s growth, the importance of formal education and certification in achieving professional excellence cannot be overstated.

The journey to becoming a master esthetician involves several key steps, starting with fulfilling the basic educational requirements prescribed by your state or country. Prospective students typically enroll in a certified master esthetician school, where comprehensive training on advanced aesthetical practices and skin sciences is imparted.

Following theoretical education, hands-on experience through apprenticeship is essential, allowing students to apply learned concepts in real-world scenarios under the guidance of experienced professionals. Finally, obtaining your master esthetician license, which may require passing a state-administered exam, certifies your qualification to practice at this elevated level. This article will guide you through these critical steps, ensuring a clear pathway to securing your professional place in the competitive landscape of aesthetic skincare.

Understanding the Role of a Master Esthetician

A master esthetician is an advanced skin care professional who has received extensive training and education in various skincare techniques and technologies. They possess a deeper understanding of anatomy, skin conditions, cosmetic ingredients, and related subjects compared to regular estheticians.

What is a Master Esthetician?

A master esthetician is a highly skilled and knowledgeable skincare expert. They have completed additional training hours and learned advanced skincare techniques, allowing them to perform a wider range of esthetic services. With their specialized knowledge and licensure, master estheticians can provide more comprehensive and personalized treatments to their clients.

Key Responsibilities of a Master Esthetician

As a master esthetician, you will have a diverse set of responsibilities depending on your chosen profession, work environment, and location. Some of the key tasks you may undertake include:

  1. Performing basic skincare services such as facials, cleansing, and exfoliation.
  2. Utilizing advanced techniques like chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and laser hair removal.
  3. Providing pre and post-operative care for clients undergoing plastic surgery procedures.
  4. Administering specialized treatments like lymphatic drainage massage and aromatherapy for cellular-level skin changes.
  5. Analyzing clients’ skin conditions and recommending personalized treatment plans.
  6. Implementing strict safety and sanitation practices to ensure client health and well-being.
  7. Staying updated with the latest skincare technologies, products, and industry trends.

Throughout their work, master estheticians leverage their in-depth knowledge of skin sciences, anatomy, and cosmetic ingredients to deliver high-quality, customized skincare services tailored to each client’s unique needs.

Step 1: Meeting the Basic Requirements

The first step towards becoming a master esthetician is meeting the basic educational and training requirements set by your state or jurisdiction. These prerequisites ensure you have a solid foundation before advancing to the next level of specialized training.

Prerequisites Before Starting Training

Before enrolling in a master esthetician program, you must complete the following:

  1. Obtain a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Complete a basic esthetician program and secure a license to practice as an esthetician in your state.

Most states require aspiring master estheticians to first become licensed estheticians by completing a basic esthetician program. These programs typically consist of 600-800 hours of coursework and hands-on training.

Educational Background Needed

To become a master esthetician, you have two primary educational paths to choose from:

  1. Combined Esthetician/Master Esthetician Program: Some schools offer combined programs that cover both basic and master esthetician curricula. These programs run consecutively, allowing you to begin the master esthetician portion immediately after completing the basic esthetician training. The total program duration can range from 1,200 to 1,800 hours, depending on your state’s requirements.
  2. Separate Master Esthetician Program: Alternatively, you can enroll in a separate master esthetician program after first completing a basic esthetician program and obtaining your initial esthetician license. These programs are designed for licensed estheticians seeking advanced training and typically require an additional 600-800 hours of instruction.

Regardless of the path you choose, it’s crucial to ensure that the program you enroll in is accredited and meets your state’s licensing requirements for master estheticians. Additionally, some states may have specific prerequisites, such as a minimum number of years of experience as a licensed esthetician before pursuing a master esthetician license.

Step 2: Completing Your Training

After meeting the basic requirements, the next crucial step is to enroll in and complete a comprehensive master esthetician program. This specialized training will equip you with the advanced knowledge and skills necessary to excel as a master esthetician.

Choosing the Right Program

Selecting the right master esthetician program is essential for your success. Consider factors such as the program’s reputation, curriculum, hands-on training opportunities, and alignment with your personal values and goals. It is important that your values and outlook align with the school you choose. For instance, some schools may emphasize a specific philosophy or approach, such as holistic or medical esthetics.

When researching programs, look for those that offer a wide range of advanced techniques and treatments, including chemical peels, microdermabrasion, laser hair removal, lymphatic drainage massage, and aromatherapy. Ensure the program covers in-depth knowledge of anatomy, skin conditions, cosmetic ingredients, and the latest industry trends.

Coursework and Training Hours

Master esthetician programs typically require an additional 600-800 hours of instruction beyond the basic esthetician program. The coursework combines theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on training to prepare you for a variety of advanced skincare services.

During the program, you can expect to learn:

  1. Advanced facial treatments
  2. Chemical peels and exfoliation techniques
  3. Microdermabrasion and dermaplaning
  4. Laser hair removal and light-based therapies
  5. Pre and post-operative care for cosmetic procedures
  6. Advanced anatomy and physiology of the skin
  7. Cosmetic ingredients and product knowledge
  8. Specialized treatments like lymphatic drainage and aromatherapy
  9. Safety protocols and sanitation practices

The program will also provide ample opportunities for hands-on training, allowing you to practice your skills on real clients in a supervised clinical setting. This practical experience is invaluable in building confidence and preparing you for a successful career as a master esthetician.

The program will also provide ample opportunities for hands-on training, allowing you to practice your skills on real clients in a supervised clinical setting. This practical experience is invaluable in building confidence and preparing you for a successful career as a master esthetician.

  1. Real-life Exposure: You’ll gain first-hand experience in a professional setting, working with clients and participating in the daily operations of an esthetics business.
  2. Mentorship and Guidance: Your apprentice master will serve as your mentor, providing personalized instruction, feedback, and guidance throughout your apprenticeship.
  3. Client Interaction: You’ll have the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients, honing your communication skills and developing a client base.
  4. Business Acumen: By observing and participating in the business aspects of an esthetics practice, you’ll develop an understanding of running a successful operation, from client management to marketing strategies.

While an apprenticeship may require a longer commitment compared to a traditional esthetician program, the hands-on experience and mentorship can be invaluable in shaping you into a well-rounded and confident master esthetician.

Step 4: Licensing and Certification

After completing your master esthetician program and apprenticeship, the final step is to obtain your professional license and certification. This crucial credential allows you to legally practice as a master esthetician in your state or jurisdiction.

Exam Preparation Tips

To secure your master esthetician license, you will need to pass a comprehensive examination. Here are some tips to help you prepare:

  1. Review the exam requirements and format outlined by your state board or licensing authority.
  2. Utilize study materials and practice tests provided by your master esthetician program or reputable third-party resources.
  3. Focus on areas such as advanced skin analysis, treatment protocols, safety and sanitation practices, and the use of specialized equipment and techniques.
  4. Familiarize yourself with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines governing the practice of master esthetics in your state.
  5. Develop a consistent study routine and allocate sufficient time for thorough preparation.

Maintaining Your License

Once you have obtained your master esthetician license, it is essential to maintain it by fulfilling ongoing requirements. These may include:

  1. Renewing your license periodically, typically every 1-2 years, by submitting the necessary documentation and fees.
  2. Completing continuing education credits or courses to stay up-to-date with the latest industry developments, techniques, and regulations.
  3. Adhering to professional conduct standards and ethical guidelines set forth by your state’s licensing board.
  4. Maintaining accurate records of your professional activities, client interactions, and any required documentation.

By consistently meeting these requirements, you demonstrate your commitment to professional excellence and ensure that you can continue providing advanced skincare services to your clients legally and ethically.

Conclusion

Navigating the path to becoming a master esthetician involves commitment, education, hands-on experience, and meeting licensing requirements. This process equips future professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the advanced aesthetics industry. By adhering to the steps outlined, from initial prerequisites through specialized training and apprenticeship to obtaining licensure, individuals demonstrate their dedication to professional development and readiness to meet the evolving needs of clients seeking advanced skincare solutions.

The journey underscores the importance of continued learning and adherence to high standards of practice. For aspiring master estheticians, securing your professional license not only confirms your expertise but also opens doors to diverse opportunities in the beauty and skincare sector. Moreover, this achievement contributes significantly to the industry by setting benchmarks for excellence and fostering trust among clients in the services provided by certified professionals.

As we say goodbye to one beautiful year, we welcome the next one with open arms, as well as hands that are ready to work their magic and make others feel fantastic about themselves. 2022 brought many beauty trends that enhanced our courses and student knowledge at 黄瓜社区, and 2023 promises to usher in a whole new wave of trends to benefit our students and their future clients. Let鈥檚 take a closer look at how health and beauty trends have amplified what we are learning and implementing in the classroom.

2022 in Review

Hair that鈥檚 out there

Hair that reached new heights saw an uptick in popularity this year, as high puff hairstyle searches have grown 165% from October 2019 per Pinterest. A renewed interest in natural hair texture is behind the growing interest, with short natural hairstyles, natural hair bun styles, and two puffs natural hair hairstyles leading the trending pack. Studies also show that fashionistas were looking to rebel this year, with “hard-to-miss hair” styles like octopus hair, mullets and bob cut wigs seeing the light of day again. Shaved head dye designs and short hair mohawks were hot in action and definitely made a big statement this year. Our Master Hair Design program allows our students to get practice in a real salon, so they can get the experience and sense of what鈥檚 trending at that exact moment.

Totally nailing it

It seems that nail art has taken to a new high each year, and 2022 was no exception. Individual expression of beauty is not a new trend, but it is reaching new heights in the nail area. Landscape-style designs and galaxy nail art adorned many a digit this year, with ocean, desert, and Aurora-themed nails also rising in popularity. Social media has helped fuel the phenomenon, with nail art images and videos that seemingly get more and more unique. It has never been a more exciting or profitable time to be a nail artist, and 黄瓜社区鈥檚 Nail Technician program takes you through all the essentials you need to nail for the profession.

Making room for the men

Each year, the male beauty industry intensifies, and in 2022 we saw a massive expansion in the range of products and services for men. With everything from manicures to home grooming, this industry is expected to reach $277 billion by 2030. Icons like Harry Styles helped to make male nail polish and cosmetics a norm for men, and with the number of male beauty influencers and brand ambassadors on the rise, not only are gender norms being challenged but a whole new market opportunity is being created for our students to excel at. We have definitely seen a rise in enrollment for our Barbering program, aimed specifically at the male beauty experience.

Skincare is queen

Rather than just hide blemishes and imperfections, this year we were determined to fix them at their root cause. With many working from home and finding less of a need for makeup, our focus was pivoted to excellent skin care. YouTube saw a rise in skincare tutorials over cosmetic videos, and we are even seeing an emergence of hybrid products that combine makeup properties with skincare ingredients.

What鈥檚 to Come in 2023

Beauty & tech, the new 鈥渋t鈥 couple

One thing that never goes out of style for consumers and clients is value. As they look to make the most out of their dollar, we are seeing an increase in money being put toward beauty technology. Technical advancements such as 3D printing, gene editing, and wearable devices are taking center stage as their efficiency and potency help to develop new products and processes.

Putting the care in self-care

2020 rang in a rough couple of years for most of us, so it鈥檚 no wonder that self-care routines are at an all-time high. While the treatments themselves are important, it鈥檚 also the value of connecting and community that will make self-care at the forefront of beauty regimens. Helping others is at the forefront of wellness this coming year, with new ways to help all of us feel and live better. This means more holistic practices as well as treatments for habits that support beauty such as sleep and circulation.

Getting digitally gorgeous

As we step into the future, consumers are looking for the next generation of experience, which entails a merger of online and offline formats – everything from digital avatars to the incorporation of the metaverse to virtual reality, which will go from being a very unique experience to just the regular norm. 鈥淧hygital鈥 (physical + digital) experiences will lead us to a new way of connecting with clients.

It鈥檚 truly a blossoming time to be a part of the beauty industry, as new trends bring endless possibilities. Does that sound like a dream come true to you? Come visit us to see all that is waiting for you in the world of beauty.

Let鈥檚 talk skincare. Skin Care Specialists, also known as estheticians, correct past damage done to the skin and work to correct future problems. At 黄瓜社区, we offer multiple programs for aspiring estheticians and specialists that are passionate about skin health and antiaging. And while we believe that proper skin care should be practiced daily on your own, it鈥檚 also important to lean on the professionals to maintain your skin鈥檚 health and elasticity.

Our instructor-led on-campus spa offers a variety of skincare treatments where our students perform the latest treatments including masks, peels, and more to uncover radiantly healthy skin. You can review our spa and salon services here.

Like many people in recent years, skincare has become one of the top priorities in our anti-aging regimen and overall wellness journey. But where does one start if they鈥檙e just beginning to practice proper skincare?

Here are a few emerging trends of 2022 that you can add to your skincare routine to give your skin that healthy glow, in addition to regular visits to your esthetician.

黄瓜社区 Esthetician Giving Facial to Client Boca Raton and Parkland, FL

Sunscreen

That鈥檚 right, sunscreen. While we鈥檝e heard in recent years the ongoing pleas from skincare experts to add sunscreen to our facial routines, it鈥檚 recently become a blanket statement in all conversations involving skincare. The benefits of protecting your face are undeniable: anti-aging, anti-wrinkling, and protects you from harmful UV rays that could lead to an increased risk of skin cancer. And while some people love that warm glow on their face, there are a plethora of self-tanning products out there that will give you the sun-kissed tint you love without the risk. Beauty bloggers, celebrities, and estheticians alike have worked hard to make sure this trend remains at the forefront of everyone鈥檚 mind when they think about skin health.

Skin Care

We offer two intensive programs at 黄瓜社区 for aspiring estheticians to choose from. The original Master Esthetician program takes students through the full breadth of treatments and modalities that have been honed over the centuries. Many of the most popular treatments of today include Oxygen-Infused Facials, Microneedling, Dermaplaning and Body Sculpting.

For skin care, students advise clients on the importance of a healthy diet and proper nutrition to improve skin tone and texture from the inside and out.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is a technique where the body or select regions such as the face, are exposed to cold temperatures for short time segments. You can use tools for this process, such as ice globes or other.
In addition to temporary pore-shrinking, cryotherapy has been known to increase blood flow and oxygen to the face, which can give skin that 鈥済low.鈥 The rush of blood and oxygen to the face can also de-puff the skin and make your face look less swollen.

Apart from these trends, seeing a Skin Care Specialist is always recommended, to help implement a routine that鈥檚 customized to your individual needs.

Interested in being on the other side of skincare?

The Master Aesthetician program is a 24-week program, and the Skin Care program lasts 10 weeks. We also offer a Paramedical Esthetician program which focuses on correction more than cosmetic (read our blog for more details). At 黄瓜社区, our instructors will provide you with the hands-on training, practical spa experience, and specialized knowledge it takes to pursue a successful career as an Esthetician. As a student in this program, you will learn the important techniques and skills needed to become a successful skincare professional.

Here鈥檚 a snapshot of what you鈥檒l learn in 黄瓜社区鈥檚 Skin Care programs:

Whether you lived through it or watched it in movies and music videos, you鈥檝e witnessed firsthand the exciting evolution of beauty over the last several decades. With the onset of television, music videos, the internet and social media; over the last thirty years we鈥檝e transformed from the breakout trends of the 60鈥檚, 70鈥檚 and 80鈥檚, (that spoke of freedom and individuality), to create a palette that鈥檚 more centered around each individual.

As trends come and go, we often see them reborn into a new and better aesthetic than the original. Case in point, mullets.

黄瓜社区 was founded thirty years ago in 1991 with one mission in mind, to create an outstanding educational campus for those in search of a successful career in cosmetology. The Academy has grown exponentially throughout the years to encompass fourteen programs
which today includes massage therapy, skin care, paramedical aesthetician, makeup artistry, nail technician and more.

Beauty, like fashion, is in a continuous evolution as we discover new styles, new ingredients, new treatments and honor centuries-old traditions. So let鈥檚 take a look back at the last 30 years to celebrate artistry, ingenuity, innovation and the pioneers of trends that have become mainstream today.

Year Trend or Invention of the Year What Made the News
1991 Bright Eye Shadow & Bold Makeup As seen in Thelma & Louise, bright colors on eyes & lips takes center stage.
1992 Pou铿y Bangs & Voluminous Updos Tia Carerra made this look in Wayne鈥檚 World.
1993 The return of French Tips A classic returns as an understated trend thanks to Janet Jackson in her 铿乴m debut Poetic Justice.
1994 Creative hair color Grunge goes mainstream and, thanks to Claire Danes in My So Called Life, so does bold hair color. (Her color choice? Oxblood red)
1995 The Rachel haircut This short layered look created by Chris McMillan for Jennifer Aniston became 鈥淭he Style鈥 of the decade, not just the year and has in铿倁enced styles even today.
1996 Chiseled cheekbones and contouring Makeup artistry earns its spotlight for its ability to transform more than day to night, but enhance, accentuate and transform. This look was best seen on Kate Moss in Gucci鈥檚 runway show.
1997 Genie high ponytails Naomi Campbell rocked this look on the runway with her high pony (a 铿俰rty retro 60鈥檚 style accentuated with a hair extension).
1998 Smudged eyeliner Inspired and recycled from the 60鈥檚, this smoky, smudgy look was seen on A-list celebrities including Winona Ryder. Today this is a classic look that creates the eye-enhancing 鈥渄oe eye鈥.
1999 Frosted Tips Let鈥檚 not forget the frosted tips of Justin Timberlake and NSync.
2000 Frosted eye shadow Nothing says 鈥渟parkle鈥 like frosted eye shadow (and makeup). The frosts of the late 90鈥檚 have evolved into a palette of shimmery colors today.
2001 Skinny brows Those who were caught up in this overplucked look may be the microblading brow clients of today.
2002 Ringlets What came naturally to Nicole Kidman was replicated by stars including Brittney Spears thanks to perms making a brief return.
2003 Lip liner Once Hally Berry walked the red carpet with this bold look, (a dark lined lip with a soft lip color & gloss) it was emulated by women coast to coast.
2004 Bronzer Paris Hilton wore it best (or at least the most). As someone said, 鈥淚f you didn鈥檛 look like Tandoori Chicken you were doing it wrong.鈥 Fortunately this bronzed look (and the products) have improved over the years.
2005 Tattoos anyone? This permanent statement started to enter the mainstream as seen on Angelina Jolie and many other A-listers.
2006 Tiger striped highlights Far from a natural color style,
foils fly throughout salons to
create mod-style of
鈥渘ot-so-subtle鈥 chunky stripes
of color was seen on Kelly
Clarkson and women everywhere.
2007 Flatiron hair The straighter the better. This look may have been the inspiration of heat-protectant styling products.
2008 The return of razor-thin eyebrows Don鈥檛 do it. (no one listened) but as we know over plucking causes permanent brow loss. Permanent makeup and microblading to the rescue.
2009 Armband tattoos Just remember, tattoos are
permanent and should never
be the result of a trend as is
evident with armbands and its
predecessor from the early
2000鈥檚 (on the lower back),
aka 鈥渢he tramp stamp鈥.
Fortunately, Boca Beauty
Academy added a
paramedical aesthetics
program to help remove
unwanted markings.
2010 Big brows Finally, it’s back in fashion to stop plucking and be natural. Some women may have taken this look a little far with their brows overpowering their face. Thanks to the practices of threading, waxing and microblading, we鈥檝e evolved.
2011 Chin patch aka 鈥淭he Soul Patch鈥 This may be one of the facial hair trends we鈥檇 like to erase from history, but it did open the door for more creative facial hair and the evolution of styled barbering for men of all ethnicities.
2012 Short spiky hair As reality TV takes over cable TV, Kate Gosselin wore this signature short hairstyle of long in the front, short on top.
2013 Pou铿y hair updos Jennifer Lopez owned the red carpet this year with her voluminous style pulled back on top and down on the sides. The hairstyle was inspired by looks of the 50鈥檚.
2014 Black Hair Black women stood proud and black hair became an important part of the beauty conversation, thanks in part to Viola Davis鈥 wig removal moment on How to Get Away With Murder.
2015 Pouty Lips It was the year everyone wanted more volume to their lips and the perfect pout as touted by Kylie Jenner. Many tried to create the look with suction cups (not advised). Lip 铿乴lers have gained popularity ever since.
2016 Marbled, Metallic, Contoured & Holographic Nails Color, texture, and more color. Complex and creative nail art became the trend taking the nail profession to new heights.
2017 Face Masks It was the most Googled trend of the year. From at-home sheet masks to spa treatments with turmeric, charcoal and other holistic, vegan ingredients.
2018 Shade-Inclusive Foundations The palette of 8 skin colors
proudly expanded to embrace
every skin tone and color.
Fenty, founded by Rhianna,
launched with over 40 colors
embracing color for ALL
women.
2019 Return & Revamp of French Nails The French manicure returns with a bold twist of color.
Evolving from white tips, nail artists explore the spectrum of color, creating tips with pastels to metallics, aka the French Moon and Floating Tips were worn on celebrities, in铿倁encers and basically everyone.
2020 Multicolored Eye Makeup Before the Pandemic, the year started o铿 with an exciting forecast of color. From lining lower and upper lashes to bold strokes of color, eye art owned the main stage. As everyone cozied at home, TikTok exploded with how to鈥檚鈥 keeping the love alive for all things hair, makeup and fashion.
2021 Rise of Natural, Vegan and Organic Ingredients The world goes au naturale. With the heightened focus on health and wellness, natural & plant-based beauty products become increasingly popular with mainstream consumers.

It鈥檚 been an incredible 30 years exploring creativity, artistry, color and style with some trends that remain today and others discarded. Yet with many trends that come and go, they often resurge with a new approach and application, for the better.

Together, we鈥檝e experienced groundbreaking moments as well as style that may make you cringe. Most importantly, we are reminded of the importance of being true to yourself and celebrating individuality. As stated by Coco Chanel,

鈥淏eauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself.鈥

At 黄瓜社区, we鈥檝e celebrated the ins and outs of beauty and fashion in order to provide our students with a solid educational foundation and a current repertoire of what clients require today.

The constant search for healthy, fabulous hair brings with it the constant search for the right tools to make it happen. Not to worry, hair fanatics! We鈥檝e rounded up some of the hottest hair styling products out there to keep heads turning and your hair game strong.

1. Straightening Brush 鈥 Looking for sleek, straight hair but tired of the time flat irons take? This dual-purpose tool is the product for you! Choose a model that has ceramic plates for the most 鈥渇rizz-free鈥 experience.

2. Sea Salt Spray 鈥 Ready to channel your inner beach-babe? You can get those sun-soaked, beachy waves happening with just a little spritz of sea salt texturizing spray. And don鈥檛 worry about the salt robbing your hair of moisture. Most of these sprays include conditioner too.

3. Supplements 鈥 While this product is not strictly a hair-styling product, its purpose is to help your hair from the inside. And anything that is designed to promote healthier, more lustrous hair is worthy of a mention. To get the best results from a hair supplement, choose a high-quality version that includes plenty of biotin and folic acid.

4. Color-Depositing Shampoo and Conditioner 鈥 These sulfate-free products are the perfect solution for keeping colored hair fresh longer. Infused with color pigment that neutralizes brassiness or boosts your color, color-depositing products come in a variety of pigments for different hair colors. Use in place of your regular shampoo and conditioner once a week for the best results. Try a purple pigment for blonde hair and blue for brunette.

5. Hair Growth Oil 鈥 If you have thinning hair, we love the natural benefits of hair growth oil versus products with harsher chemicals. Hair growth oil stimulates the scalp and promotes growth by reducing inflammation. It also replenishes the hair鈥檚 natural oils that get stripped away from daily styling.

Keeping your crowning glory glorious is a lot easier with the right tools. Be sure to test out different brands to see which one works the best for your hair. And if your hair obsession is more than just a little serious, maybe you should consider a career in cosmetology! The beauty industry is growing at a rapid pace and talented cosmetologists are in high demand. If you鈥檇 like to learn more about a career that revolves around making other people look and feel great, check out the Cosmetology Program at 黄瓜社区. Boca is helping students get hands-on experience and the confidence they need to launch successful careers in the exciting world of beauty. Contact 黄瓜社区 today for more information, or to schedule a tour of one of our campus locations.

French Vogue editor Joan Juliet Buck said about short hair, 鈥淪hort hair removes obvious femininity and replaces it with style.鈥 Consider that for some women, choosing to switch from long or even medium length tresses to closely cropped locks is not just a haircut but a major life event! It can transform the way people see you. Check out five of the latest styles trending for those looking to downsize their do鈥檚!

1. Sculpted pixie-cut 鈥 The traditional, face-framing pixie cut with a slight variation of gradually longer hair around the face. This cut is perfect for someone with a thicker texture to their hair and an oval or round shaped face. This cut can be elegant or boardroom ready with the right application of product to add or decrease volume.

2. Undercut bob 鈥 If your hair is very fine and you have a more elongated face, this style is ideal! With very short hair at the nape and tapered sides that rest just at the jawline, this cut achieves marvelous volume at the crown. Be prepared to get regular trims as this cut loses its shape quickly.

3. Rocker bob 鈥 Think rock and roll with a classic twist. This essentially wash and go cut is perfect for curly or wavy hair and includes a thick fringe of loosely cut bangs. As any one blessed with natural waves knows, product is critical to keep a frizz-free look.

4. Textured lob 鈥 The popularity of the 鈥淟ob鈥 or long bob, has not diminished and this cut, is particularly versatile. With the help of a good flat or curing iron, you can sport this not quite shoulder-length cut with a wavy, beachy feel or sleek and straight for a fabulous face framing finish. Product is important to manage this style too and to protect your hair from the damage those hot styling tools can do.

5. Micro-bob 鈥 Shorter than a classic bob but longer than the pixie cut, the micro-bob has the same structure of the bob but is just short enough to pull off edgy or polished depending on your mood. This cut is great for fine or thick hair but is not ideal for curly hair. Add in a neatly trimmed fringe of bangs and you have a cute and sassy look that is fairly low maintenance.

Coco Chanel said once that a woman about to cut her hair is about to change her life! So if you鈥檙e someone who enjoys change, don鈥檛 be afraid to start on top of your head with a style transforming cut that shows your fearless side! Are you one of the fearless and stylish who dream of making a living out of styling the rest of us? Maybe a career in the exciting world of beauty is right for you! At 黄瓜社区, students are getting hands-on training in cosmetology from experienced instructors with real world knowledge and skills!
